Terror attack on Israel-Egypt border

Three terrorists open fire on Artillery Corps troops securing workers building southern border fence; terrorists detonate bomb before being killed in exchanges of fire. The only good terrorist is a dead terrorist and we’ve got 3 good and dead terrorists on the border with Egypt. A major terror attack inside the country has been averted.

I hope that the border between Israel and Egypt can be secured by a very high wall or fence. I think that more terrorist attacks can be expected.

Way to go border security! Wish we had some….

Unfortunately one Israeli soldier was killed in action, his name was Netanel Yahalomi.

Larry007, I cannot believe the world has so much violence in the
21st century. As a child, I believed that history and education would change people and that they would negotiate and tolerate, rather than resorting to violence. In my childish reasoning, I believe that most people would find violence abhorrent. I sensed that there would always be criminals, whose lives made them predisposed to violence, but I thought wars and attacks would not happen. But then, certainly terrorist attacks are really criminal.
The death of Netanel Yaholomi is a tragedy.

I don’t think the situation is that bad.

Wars like in the 19th century are now almost nonexistent. Whenever there is a conflict over economic interests, the countries in question nowadays battle it out in boardrooms, using words rather than arrows or bullets. The only exception I am aware of is the 1991 invasion of Kuwait by Saddam Hussein, and it didn’t work out for him too well.

The other cause for wars – youths spoiling for a good fight – has been largely neutralized thanks to the development of sport, both participatory and spectator sports. Bored youths discharge their violence by acting the part of hooligan fans. It is rather inconvenient and damaging and causes people to die and get injured – but it is far from causing the damage of a real war with bullets, POWs and the associated destruction.

Nowadays, wars are fought due to religious reasons and by people who are more hungry for power than for the good and rich life that peace can afford.
