Gaza girls can’t attend school unless wearing a Burka
Steyn is reporting what no one else seems to want to touch — the new regulations for girls attending university in Gaza — and that has even West Bank Palestinians (who pay for the school) up in arms.
In Gaza, al-Aqsa University has announced that female students will be required to attend in proper Muslim garb from head to toe (burka) — and can no longer attend school wearing “only” a headscarf and long coat.
The Palestinian higher-education minister, Ali Jarbawi, stated from Ramallah that the new dress code is completely illegal but neither he, nor anyone else in the West Bank, have any ability to keep the new Hamas policy from being implemented. Hard to believe, isn’t it, that not even 10 years ago girls in Gaza frolicked on the beach in bikinis and wore Western garb — tank tops, mini-skirts, whatever they wanted — on the streets of Gaza’s cities.
