bizarre: North Korea threatens Austin, TX with nuclear attack

I get the strategic positioning of missiles pointed at places like Washington, DC., L.A., San Diego, New York etc., but why in the world target little Austin, Texas? From a military standpoint it makes no sense. It isn’t a major port or industrial center or transportation hub. Can anyone see the logic in this?

People here in Austin say that North Korea is behind the times, remembering that Bush is from Texas and that striking Austin would have particular significance.

Yeah but Bush didn’t live in Austin, he lives close to Dallas. I’d seriously doubt that they are THAT far behind the times and THAT out of touch. I’m wondering if it has something to do with their connection to Hezbollah which seems to have some sort of obsession with Austin — they’ve based a number of terrorists there (that we know about because they’ve been caught) and have listed it as one of the top entry-and-hide-without-detection spots in the U.S….? It was also mentioned as a prime terrorist hide-out/sleeper cell base in Al Queda’s online magazine.

I believe that. Long ago, Sandmonkey and some of his readers had information about a group that might be planning a dirty bomb attack, and it seems that the FBI and others were investigating at that time, trying to find two men who were trying to rent a house (their criteria: totally private, sound-proof, etc.). Anyone could hide in Austin or any other big city.

[serious]I suspect that North Korean shenanigans are coordinated with Iran, in order to make it much more difficult for USA and Israel to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities.[/serious]

[tongue location=”in_cheek”]And your (Yaeli) real estate base is being targetted due to your past work on using blogosphere to make peace among the Israelis and the Arabs.[/tongue]

You are expecting sanity in their plans? Actually, I think their real goal is a longer range missile that is capable of hitting the great metropolis of —- wait for it— Lizard Lick, N.C. !

There is a hypothesis, made by Savar Plotzker (from “Yedioth Aharonot”) that the North Korean dictator is trying to play the “The Mouse That Roared” game. His country is facing a collapse, and the only way to rescue it is for it to be invaded by USA – rather than by, say, China.

According to this hypothesis, the big challenge is how to get either USA or South Korea to invade North Korea without provoking China to do the same, as they would do much worse job improving the lot of North Koreans.

Samsung Electronics, which is a South Korean company, is located in Austin, TX… My guess this that North Korea would like to hit the South Korean company to send a message to the U.S and South Korea.
