Sirens again in Bnei Brak

Will update but this will probably happen all night

Very loud bang and my windows nearly shook out of their frames. Update when I find out what and where.

Update: Bang was Iron Dome, our beautiful wonderful magnificent Iron Dome blowing the death rocket out of the sky.

Update: Sirens in Jerusalem for first time since First Gulf War. We don’t have an all-clear here yet.

Update: 3 explosions heard in Jerusalem –unclear if they were intercepts by Iron Dome or direct hits yet.

Rocket hit building in Ashdod.

Rocket hit just outside of Bethlehem in Judea (also known as the West Bank and “occupied territory” and “Palestine”)

Rocket hit a building in Jerusalem. No news re casualties yet.

House hit in Jerusalem by Hamas rockets. More than 30 rockets fired at Israel in last half hour. Rockets landed as far north as Benyamina (dude that is right outside HAIFA).

Watching on CNN. Shockingly they explained that Hamas is using civilians as human shields. Do you think that Hezbollah will get pissed off if they are getting bombed too? What a mess. Thank G-d for the iron dome. How are the kiddos doing on your floor? Stay safe!

The family across the hall and two families from upstairs have taken blankets etc and are bedding their kids down in the storage room for the night. The families with kids on the top floor are planning to just herd and carry the kids down if a siren goes off and the rest of the families, including the two that consider me “Aunt Yael,” are just staying put in their own apartments.

Wow and the BBC actually reported that a majority of the photos Palestinians have released purporting to show damage and injuries etc are from as far back as 2009 or are from Syria and Iraq. Not only rockets but it seems some pigs have flown tonight!

You guys are all so brave. I watched the video about finding shelter you posted. Hopefully I won’t have to put all this knowledge in place when I make it out there :/ Sadly though, I don’t think people here get the seriousness of the situation unless someone they know is actually in Israel and having to run for their lives. I wonder why Germany hasn’t gotten pissed off since their citizens were in jeopardy on the cruise ship?…How will you get to sderot tomorrow since you don’t have a car? Do you think Ronen can zip you there and back super speed? Are people allowed to take their pets to shelters? My sweet patches would have a nervous breakdown if i left him. Granted Vlad won’t be too happy either, but trying to grab a cat with claws and a huge attitude AND dragging a hound dog with incredibly long legs at the same time just doesn’t seem feasible…..

Erin, trust me, if this terror show came to your neighbourhood then you and your neighbours would find you had backbone you didn’t know you had. Remember the response on 9/11 and the days after!

I don’t have a car but I may be riding shotgun as someone experienced with corralling and crating frightened pets. I won’t know until tomorrow a.m. if I am needed.

As far as taking pets into shelters the answer is variable. It is a no if you are talking about a public shelter for folks who do not have safe rooms built into their buildings or individual apartments. It depends on your neighbours if you do have one built for all the apartment residents. Even then it often logistically is a no because dogs need to be walked to do their business and cats can only stay crated for so long…

People in the South are literally living full-time in the shelters. You can barely cross a room in 15 seconds -and that is all those close to the Gaza border have. Especially the elderly and people with young children can’t risk going back to their apartments to feed their cats or to take their dogs out for a walk.

Yael, you are right about pigs flying! Even Al Arabiya is reporting somewhat fairly on the situation. They have an article (in English, via World Affairs Journal) titled “Israeli military masses troops along Gaza border” and the first sentence is:

“As the Islamist movement Hamas unleashed salvos with long-range missiles on cities including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv on Tuesday, Israel mobilized forces along the border for a possible ground invasion, the Associated Press reported.”

The rest of the article isn’t too bad, either, for an Arab news site. Amazing.

Any other country than Israel would have expulsed the entire Gaza strip population for good, once and for all!!
So far, what Israel has done after being deluged with more than 100 rockets?!!! Basically NOTHING compared to what any other country would have done, not to mention what would have done Arab countries in such a case!!!

According to the UN, the Gaza area is fully Israeli!!! And yet not a single Israeli is allowed to live there!!!
Israel should expulsed ALL the Gaza population to Arab countries and take back fully sovereignty of the entire Gaza strip. If Israel does not do that, we will see this deluge of rockets falling on Israel recurrently appearing time and again during the next decades!!

Well, to wipe out Hamas once and for all is still very current to say the least but Israel have had this goal on its mind for how long? Several decades and Israel has still not done anything about it!!!

I hope the politicians will finally have the balls to end this situation once and for all.

My Aliyah date, Aug 12th. I wish it were today!

Tiger — wish you were already here too! Are you coming on a Nefesh flight? I so hate that just as you guys are getting here, I’m going. Let me know what I can do to help you get settled in the two week overlap we’ll have.

Jake — that is impressive. I hope the media doesn’t do its usual snake in the grass thing.

Wipe — you are right, no other country in the world would put up with this and no other country would be condemned for defending itself.

I actually saw coverage that was more fair on media sources. I could not believe it! A welcome change though, for sure.
