Hear the crickets in international media as Syria death toll tops 60,000
Sheesh, maybe Israel should fire off a couple of rockets that don’t hit anyone into Syria because it seems that the international media, country leaders, and the U.N. only pay attention to deaths and conflicts if the Jooos are involved. Remember all the media hysteria just weeks ago about our disproportionate response to having 1500 rockets shot at our civilians by terrorists and the horror that we killed 100-odd rocket-shooting terrorists? Yeah. Nary a peep about the fact that more than 60,000 (yes, sixty thousand) people have been killed in Syria nor horror that the majority of the dead are civilians.
Far be it for the media to cover, you know, real, actual genocide and real actual oppression.

Yaeli, you expressed my thoughts exactly. The Syrian rebels need to cut a deal with Israel — say Israel keeps the Golan after Assad goes — and then Israel will drop a few bombs. It will get the world’s attention and instant support for the rebels.
No chance for this. The Syrian rebels declared that Israel will be the next target after Assad.
Anyone cares to bet how long from consolidation of the new regime until the Left in Israel calls for withdrawal from the Golan Heights in order to have peace with the new Syrian regime?
heh, yeah, they and the entire 20% of the population that supports them. You are right, of course, they will call for it and will try to trash our country because we aren’t that suicidal. Not anymore.
Mike, the rebels are not our friends any more than Assad is –actually probably less than Assad. Yes, that is possible, as unbelievable as it sounds.

I plead clemency because in the runup to the elections in Israel, there are enough parodies and crazy politicians for us to lose track who is being sincere and who is parodizing it out.

Pirate, after watching this Israeli election, from a distance and in English, I can understand your confusion. It must be even worse up close and in Hebrew. I would say it’s worse than US elections, but at least in Israel the actual campaign season is only a few months. It seemed like this last election in the US lasted forever.
I am heartsick thinking of our Syrian friends and what they are experiencing. It’s terrible not knowing whether they are safe. I hope that they are out of the country, but I doubt that. My fear is that they are in the middle of this horrifying situation.
